Seattle trip

Recently Stephanie and I took a trip to visit our friends Eric and Heather in Seattle, WA.  We packed up our things, boarded the dog and made the long trek out west on a Thursday afternoon.  Friday we headed out to Crystal Mountain for some snow skiing and great views.  We even were able to catch a glimpse of Mt. Rainer.  Our plans for Saturday included a much anticipated trip downtown and specifically the Pike Place Market.  There were so many things to see and eat.  We spent most of the morning exploring all the mechants and then made our way over to the Space Needle and then stop at Kerry Park for some great views of downtown and the bay and finally a drive by of the Freemont Troll.  Of course the trip wouldn't be complete without some good seafood and Salty's on Alki island didn't disappoint!  We splept in on Sunday since our legs were not used to so much activity and said good bye to our friends and of course our new friends Bowser and Romper.

Thanks Eric & Heather for an amazing time!

no shave November (by dave)

Several of us decided to partake in No Shave November.  I went for 10 days and had a nice beard going.

Of course it was only a matter of time before a.) I got sick of the scratching and b.) Stephanie couldn't stand to kiss me anymore while I had a beard.

So I decided it was time to shave.

As you can tell Stephanie thougt it would be fun to document the process!  And this is what happened...

is it a flower? (by Dave)

Today for lunch I had a Satsuma orange in front of me, having never eaten one before I was curious.  I began to peel it back in my usual methodical way and then sat it down on my desk.  I took one look and saw this.

It almost looks like a flower doesn it?

Happy Halloween

I've got to admit that I really love carving pumkins, which doesn't necessarily mean I love Halloween.  I think I like the idea of getting my creative juices flowing and dreaming up a cool design to carve.  I also like the cool weather that gets me outside to enjoy my pumkin.  I had been urging Stephanie to go get some pumkins with me and we finally went last weekend.  Since it's been rather warm this week we waited until Wednesday to carve them.  I talked her into carving a cat, while I decided I would do a very scary face.  I thought she did a great job, and mine turned out better than I had expected.

Of course both of our pumpkins are now rotted and ready for the trash after the 80 degree weather we've had!

Bedroom upgrade (by Dave)

Last weekend we decided it was time for some new paint in our bedroom.  We also decided that the original trim needed to go as well, so we declared war on our room.  We aren't done with the project yet, but we hope to be this weekend.  Here are some photos of our progress thus far.

here is what we started with

another angle before we start

we moved a lot of the furniture out and removed the trim and covered the walls with primer

now it was time for the paint - we used sycamore green from Restoration Hardware

stephanie hit her groove on the second coat of primer

i get ready to paint the ceiling - it was not fun in case you were wondering!

you can really see the green color in this shot

the walls are all done now and we've put in some floor trim

time to install the new door trim

We'll post some more photos next week and let you see how the trim looks and how my installation of crown molding goes!

Birthday fun - Ft. Worth style

I decided a trip to Ft. Worth was in order for Stephanie's birthday, so we headed out last Saturday for the zoo and then onto the symphony at Bass Hall that night. It was lots of fun!
